This is nothing surprising to many fitness/health experts — not to mention intelligent people who actually do their own research — but there’s new evidence that low-carbohydrate, high-fat diets are the best for most people. Healthy body fat loss and fewer cardiovascular problems are among the benefits enjoyed by “low-carbers” compared to their high-carb friends.
Years ago some not-so-bright people decided that fat — especially saturated fat — is just absolutely horrible for us. They set us down the road to low-fat, carb-rich (and sugar-rich) diets — and that hasn’t turned out so well, obviously.
Luckily, new studies — including one from the National Institutes of Health — are showing that eating fewer carbs (especially processed/refined carbs), more protein, and plenty of healthy (and, yes, even saturated) fats is the best option when it comes to healthy weight loss and heart health.
The new NIH study even showed that cutting carbs can help people lose weight without counting calories. That’s huge because, for most of us, changing the type of food we eat is actually much easier than carefully tracking calorie intake!
